New York runs on an IHIP plus four quarterly reports and a year-end assessment — so it's the record-keeping, not just a single portfolio, that matters. Keep all of the following:

Your filed Notice of Intent and IHIP (Individualized Home Instruction Plan) for the year
A record of instructional hours — 900 (grades 1–6) or 990 (grades 7–12) — broken out so you can report each quarter
Work and materials covering the required subjects(samples, projects, photos of hands-on work)
Copies of your four quarterly reports(hours completed, material covered, and progress)
Your annual assessment — a standardized test result or a narrative evaluation, depending on grade level

By July 1 (each year)File your annual Notice of Intent with the school district.
